October 18, 2013 at the Faculty of Geology in the room. 301 experienced a lecture seismologist Carl Regone "Acquisition modeling: Expect the unexpected". The event was held within the SEG Distinguished Lecture Program 2013.
The lecturer touched on the current mining industry. For example, alternative models of slate, with three-dimensional, viscoelastic, anisotropic data containing all effects near the Earth's surface and well investigated by seismic geophysics. It lets you model complex geological stratigraphy. In general lecture covered the use of seismic to solve actual geological problems of interest to industry.
Lecture visited four teachers and 50 students. Students learned about the use of seismic modeling to explore oil and gas. We considered issues such as filtration efficiency transverse wave propagation for coherent noise reduction, the importance of adequate sampling of the wave field at the receiver, the effects of displacement and azimuth coverage and their impact on image quality, the effects of surface zim'yatosti salt and salt inclusions in pidsolyanyh images and effect signal/noise sampling.
Carl Regone - Consultant from Contractor (Houston, USA). He received a BA and MA in mathematics and physics at the University of Virginia. He worked in the processing and interpretation of seismic data, initially for Amoco in New Orleans, and then to the USGS in Washington, DC. After the merger with Amoco BP in 1999, Charles moved to Houston and began to concentrate on the visualization of deep pidsolyanyh models. Modeling in this period led to the development of methods of towing shyrokoazymutalnyh braids for which Carl (along with John Ethenom) was awarded the 2008 SEG Virgil Kauffman Gold Medal.
