April 14, 2015 at the educational institute "Institute of Geology" a lecture of professor of the University of Tel Aviv Eugeny Landa "Pitfalls and challenges of seismic imaging". Lecture tour "Honorary Lecturer Europe 2015" organized by the Society of Geophysicists intelligence (SEG) and student chapter of Kyiv University Geophysical Society with the support of Shell. The tour took place from 29 January 2015 to 22 April 2015 in different European countries: Poland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, France, England, Netherlands, Serbia, Romania, Israel, Russia and Ukraine (http://seg.org/hl ).
The report listed several ways of dividing common wave field into two components: specular reflection and diffraction. Picture divided diffraction integral full wave field can emphasize small, but important geological objects that are often invisible after standard processing of seismic data. It was considered a way to search the model-independent seismic imaging using the concept of quantum mechanics. It demonstrated the idea of continual Feynman integral for seismic imaging.
The lecture had a lot of interesting material, sayings and portraits of scientists, formulas, geological and seismic sections. Consistently the material was well received by the audience. Teachers and students asked questions about the features of the embodiment of this technique and its application to other geophysical methods.
Evgeny Landa met with the Dean of the Institute "Institute of Geology" prof. VA Mykhailov, staff of the department of geology of oil and gas. Vice-rector of the Kiev University professor. S.A. Vyzhva showed "Petrophysical lab complex". Engineer A. Vakulenko and prof. VA Nesterovskiy demonstrated brightest exhibits Geological Museum. Evgeny Landa was pleased with the visit to Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and expressed his desire to continue cooperation.
Creative way to Eugeny Landa is an example of the researcher. He was born in Zhytomyr (Ukraine). He received a Masters degree in Geophysics at Novosibirsk State University (1972) and a doctorate in geophysics at Tel Aviv University (1986). Evgeny Landa began his career in Novosibirsk, Russia (former USSR) as a researcher and senior geophysicist in the Siberian Geophysical Expedition. After emigration to Israel in 70 years, he worked at the Institute of Geophysics of Israel, as a researcher, head of research group and head of the seismic department (1981-2002). The last time he was the director of the research group in Applied Geophysics (OPERA) in Pau, France, where he participated in various aspects of processing seismic data, studied the velocity model building and time, and display depth. His work with the velocity model inversion method of coherence had a strong influence on today's seismic depth imaging processes and formed an important part of the software package GeoDepth and was one of the founders of Paradigm. Today, Landa is a member of the advisory board Geomage and professor at the University of Tel Aviv. Last of his research interests include the use of energy nonreflecting energy to improve seismic imaging precision and without the knowledge of accurate information about the speed. He has published more than 60 articles in international journals and a book "Beyond traditional seismic images." He is a member of EAGE and SEG, where he received the award "Best article" (SEG, Promotion Prize, 2005) and EAGE Etvos Prize (2007 and 2009).
