FOREWORD
|
In 2004 was celebrate 170 years from the day of formation of one of the most glorious higher educational establishment of Ukraine - Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University. This event for the Ukrainian people has extraordinary meaningfulness, because impossible completely to understand history of Ukraine without this educational establishment. In the ancient walls of native to us university always were present spirit of front-rank perception of the world, freedom and creation, flow of progressive thought and scientific perfection in cognition of nature and world.
Together with the Kyiv National University a momentous anniversary date is celebrated also in this year extraordinarily - 60-years from the day of foundation - and geological faculty and geophysics department, which are inalienable and organic his part. This date for geologists and geophysicists - graduating students of glorious educational establishment, our Alma-mater - indisputably perturbing and meaningful.
Geophysical speciality in Ukraine relatively young and it is created was, mainly, in post-war time in not many higher educational establishments of Ukraine, including the geological faculty of the Kyiv T. G. Shevchenko State University. Creation of this extraordinarily interesting and romantic profession, that requires - deep knowledges from mathematics, physics, chemistry and geology, was required by the life exactly, it was necessary in post-war years to fasten and extend the source of raw materials of the state - bases of its economic performing. There is no doubt that this task must decide by geologists in close professional collaboration with geophysics.
In times of existence of geophysics department of geological faculty of the Kyiv University in its walls over 2000 graduating students passed professional training. They successfully worked and work both on the walks of life of Ukraine, and it is far after it abroad. In communication with the 60-years anniversary of department, its present chief S. A. Vyzhva suggested to prepare anniversary edition about a department, its history and the present. This idea was ardently supported by the teachers of department. This book appeared so. At its preparation the materials of Essays from history of geological researches in the Kyiv University [1] are used, editions of NAS Ukraine [2, 3] and Kyiv University [4, 5, 6], materials of international conferences [7], information from the Modern encyclopedia of Ukraine, and archived data about all students and employees of university for a period form 1944 to 2004.
Anniversary edition is directed, foremost, to the graduating students of department of different generations. We nurture hope on that, becomes acquainted with this book they will remember the young and wonderful years of teaching in Alma-mater, the friends, employees and teachers of department - professors, associate professors, assistants, which in the period of teaching tried to hand on professional torch to the students, ability and practical experience. We want that the hearts of readers were here filled with feeling of pride about our educational establishment. We will together remember and honour the walls of our native department and geological faculty, that our professional and vital fates were united within the framework of wonderful speciality the name of which is Geophysics.
